FORT WORTH, Texas – A Fall Ozone Action Day has been declared for Saturday across the Dallas–Fort Worth metro area, prompting health and safety reminders for residents spending time outdoors. Warm, stagnant air will trap pollutants near the surface, increasing ozone levels across much of North Texas through the holiday weekend.
According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the alert covers Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, and Collin counties through Saturday night. Drivers are urged to limit idling, combine errands, and avoid fueling during the heat of the day. Those with respiratory conditions should minimize outdoor exertion, especially near busy corridors such as I-35W, I-20, and Loop 820.
Despite the poor air quality, skies will stay mostly clear with highs near 91°F through Monday, offering plenty of sun for outdoor plans. Columbus Day will feel more like midsummer than mid-October, with light south winds and afternoon temperatures approaching the lower 90s. The extended dry pattern means favorable conditions for local events, pumpkin patches, and leaf-viewing trips—but extra hydration and sun protection are advised…
