Residents of The Colony experienced a rude awakening yesterday when an explosion ripped through a neighborhood home, instantly setting it ablaze and spreading fire to surrounding properties. According to FOX 4, the incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on the 4600 block of Freeman Drive. Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the site, where they found the one-story brick house leveled by the blast and homes adjacent to it on fire. As daylight broke, neighbor Daniel Siguenza recounted how he rushed to evacuate his family, saying, “I start waking everyone up knocking at doors just trying to get everyone up and out and 30 seconds later cops knock on our door telling us to get out, that there’s a fire.”
Meanwhile, NBC 5 reported on the sensory experiences of other locals, such as Brandon Luna, who was jolted from his evening activities by the tremendous explosion. “The house shook, the waves felt like it traveled through you,” Luna said. In a chilling revelation, he also noted an odd smell hours before the fire, reminiscent of an “open propane tank or gas.” Despite homes in the area primarily using electricity, this detail adds to the mystery of what may have caused the disaster.
