Ellie Carpenter, a fourth-grade student at Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary School, has been recognized as one of Texas’s top young mathematicians through the National Math Stars program. Out of more than 4,500 applicants statewide, only 200 students were selected as finalists, placing Ellie among an elite group of math achievers.
While she was not selected as a national winner, Ellie received an invitation to join the inaugural National Math Stars Pathfinder program—a distinction that highlights her exceptional potential in mathematics. “This program is an enormous honor,” said Holly Landez, Director of Digital Learning & Innovation. “We are incredibly proud of her and cannot wait to see what she accomplishes as she continues on her academic journey.”
The Pathfinder program is a newly launched, decade-long initiative designed to support students from elementary school through high school graduation. It offers guidance in STEM opportunities, access to a community of fellow math scholars, and additional resources for students and their families.
Eligibility for the National Math Stars programs is based on top-tier performance in math assessments—specifically scoring in the top 2% or reaching the 98th percentile statewide or nationally.
