The McKinney Independent School District Board of Trustees has voted to close three of its elementary campuses ahead of the 2026–27 school year.
The move comes after years of financial strain and shifting demographics that have left some areas of the district with declining student populations.
Campuses Affected
The three schools slated for closure are C.T. Eddins Elementary, Arthur H. McNeil Elementary, and Earl & Lottie Wolford Elementary. The district says the decision follows recommendations from its Long-Range Facility Planning Committee, which found that rising home prices in McKinney’s southwest have made it increasingly difficult for young families to move into the area, leading to a steady drop in enrollment.
Superintendent Shawn Pratt acknowledged the emotional impact of the closures. “Our schools are more than buildings — they are communities filled with relationships, memories and traditions,” Pratt said in an official statement. “This decision was made only after thoughtful planning and a clear understanding of the challenges facing our district.”…
