Local Residents: Valid ID Now Required for All Vehicle Registrations in Texas

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) now requires a valid ID for all vehicle registrations. This applies to both new and renewal registrations. The rule covers in-person and mail-in applications. For mail-in registrations, applicants must include a copy of their valid ID.

Starting May 7, 2025, only REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses will be accepted for federal identification. This includes vehicle registration in Texas.
