McKinney ISD is preparing for a significant change as the district closes three elementary schools and implements new attendance boundaries for the 2026-2027 school year. After months of study and planning, the board of trustees approved a comprehensive realignment designed to balance enrollment and make the most of district facilities.
According to the district, the realignment reflects extensive planning with input from more than 300 parents, staff, students and community members who participated in the district’s strategic planning committee and long-range facility planning committee. Superintendent Shawn Pratt emphasized that the district’s top priority remains ensuring students feel safe, supported and connected throughout the transition.
Addressing Growth And Declining Enrollment
As Local Profile previously reported, the district has faced shifting demographics and financial pressures in recent years. Rising home prices in McKinney’s southwest neighborhoods have contributed to declining student populations in certain schools, while other areas continue to see growth.
To address these changes, the realignment plan will close three elementary schools — C.T. Eddins, Arthur H. McNeil and Earl & Lottie Wolford — and redistribute students to other campuses. The closures also form part of broader efforts to address a $23 million budget shortfall, despite $15 million in cost reductions already implemented for the 2025-2026 school year.
New Attendance Boundaries Released
McKinney ISD has released updated attendance maps for all grade levels. These maps are available on the district website and will be shared directly with families. The maps are designed to balance student populations across campuses while accommodating growth in northern parts of the district and addressing declining enrollment in the south.

Students affected by the realignment will have priority for transfer requests, and grandfathering provisions apply for students entering grades 5, 8 and 12 in 2026-2027…
