BJ’s Wholesale Club challenges Costco in major Texas expansion effort

Costco might have met its match in the Lone Star State.

While Texans know and love the wholesale warehouse retailer, a new chain has set its sights down South and is ramping up its Texas presence. Membership-based retailer BJ’s Wholesale Club earlier this year unveiled plans to open up to 30 new clubs across the country over the next two fiscal years, including a targeted initiative for several North Texas stores.

Those plans are now coming to fruition as BJ’s details a new project in the North Texas city of Mesquite, near the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The wholesale club is constructing a fuel center at 4420 N.
