For high school seniors and college students, it’s time to apply for academic scholarships. There are plenty of opportunities for those pursuing a post-secondary degree or trade certification, and many are centered around agriculture.
Evelyn Arnold, senior at Wakeland High School in Frisco, Texas, is already taking advantage of those opportunities. She was recently the $5,000 recipient of the National Rice Month Scholarship Contest for her video “Growing More Than Grain.” The scholarship is sponsored by the American Commodity Company and administered by USA Rice.
In reflecting on her decision to apply, she said, “I’m part of FFA, so I looked through our catalog of FFA scholarships, and the USA Rice Scholarship was one of them. I thought, I’m in agriculture and have been for all four years of high school. I could use this as a way to advocate for the industry.”
