Community leaders, students unite for ‘ICE Out of Texas’ protest

The Collin County Democratic Party and the Allen Progressive Eagles student group are co-hosting an “ICE Out of Texas” peaceful community protest on Sunday, Feb. 1, from noon-2 p.m. on the public sidewalks in front of Watters Creek, 985 W Bethany Drive in Allen. Watters Creek is “a 52-acre, open-air, mixed-use development featuring more than 70 shops, restaurants and offices, known for its scenic creek-side setting,” according to Google.

The protest is “intended to be a peaceful, lawful and powerful demonstration of community solidarity,” organizers said, and, as such, they have instituted “a strict ‘no weapons’ policy for the event. Those participating in the protest “are encouraged to wear bright, colorful clothing and brimg handmade signs and water,” the press release noted

The protest is “The event is a direct response to recent fatal encounters involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minnesota, which have sparked national outrage and fear,” organizers said in a press release announcing the protest. Organizers said they aim to “amplify a message of solidarity with affected communities across the country and call for accountability and humane immigration enforcement.”…
