Healthcare Briefs: Medical City Acquires 13 Urgent Care Centers

Medical City Healthcare has purchased 13 CommunityMed urgent care centers for an undisclosed fee. The new clinics will become part of Medical City’s CareNow Urgent Care network. The new North Texas CareNow locations include Arlington, Bartonville, Crossroads, Haslet, Heath, Mansfield, Melissa, Midlothian, Princeton, Prosper, and Wichita Falls, which is a new market for Medical City. Staff have been transitioned to Medical City. CareNow, the region’s largest urgent care provider, will now have more than 95 sites across Texas. Medical City’s parent company, HCA Healthcare, operates more than 340 urgent care locations nationwide, serving more than 4.2 million patient visits per year.

Dallas-based retail healthcare company Cartwheel announced the launch of its first product, Nit Happens, an over-the-counter lice treatment that uses non-toxic, naturally derived ingredients to eliminate lice and nits. Nit Happens uses physical disruption and dehydration via a gel that combines coconut oil, a mild cosmetic abrasive, and limonene from orange peels to kill lice and nits when gently brushed in. A clinical study reported an efficacy rate of 95.8 percent. The product is available online and will be on shelves at Walgreens later this spring…
