AT&T Moves Forward With Plano HQ Plans After Rezoning Approval

Plano is one step closer to welcoming AT&T’s global headquarters after the Plano Planning and Zoning Commission approved the initial rezoning for the former Electronic Data Systems campus.

“This move will bring our teams together under one roof and strengthen our long-term presence in the DFW region,” CEO John Stankey shared with employees when the plans were announced on Jan. 5.

Rezoning And Redevelopment Plans

The rezoning request allows the property to be used for corporate headquarters, retail, office space and research facilities on the 54-acre site at 5400 Legacy Drive. The commission also approved a waiver to bypass Plano’s standard two-year waiting period, allowing the project to move forward sooner. Final approval from the full Plano City Council is still required.

Originally developed in 1985 as the headquarters for Ross Perot’s Electronic Data Systems, the site has a long history of large-scale innovation and business leadership. While the city had been positioning the property as part of the Texas Research Quarter — a life sciences and innovation district — AT&T’s relocation restores the campus to its original corporate headquarters role while maintaining its legacy of innovation.

AT&T, currently the largest Fortune 500 company based in Dallas and the second-largest in North Texas, ranks No. 37 on the national list. The move further solidifies Plano as a magnet for globally recognized employers and underscores the city’s appeal to large-scale corporations…
