Construction advances at Wylie ISD’s New South Elementary as new principal shares vision

Abilene, Texas — Construction is moving forward on Wylie ISD’s New South Elementary, where the campus’ founding principal says she is already imagining the students and families who will soon fill the building.

“I hope when families walk in here, they just feel like it’s like a second home for their family, their kiddos. I hope their, their kids feel loved. I hope they feel the love that their kids are receiving. And I just hope that they feel like they’re walking into a place THATS AMAZING,” Principal Alison South said.

South said she hasn’t been able to turn off the excitement of opening a brand-new school.

“I can’t even sleep at night just thinking about all the exciting things. The community, the, the neighborhoods across the street that are going to feed these babies into us. The personnel that we’re going to get here, the excitement that they’re going to have, all the fresh, all the brand new things,” she said.

South said what will make the campus unique in Wylie ISD is that it will serve students from kindergarten through fifth grade, something new for the school district.

“And so we’re going to be having these days as kindergartners and working through them to the fifth grade. So we’re going to house them for multiple years, teach them to grow, teach and be leaders. Learn our culture here, learn our traditions here. So we’re going to have them for a while. That’s new to our district. Is having a K through five campus,” South said.

Safety was also built into the plan from the start, South said, including a storm shelter…
