Avelo Airlines launches at McKinney, creating jobs and offering low-cost flights

MCKINNEY, Texas — McKinney is officially joining the ranks of cities with commercial air service — and its newest partner, Avelo Airlines, is ready for takeoff.

“It is Avelo like yellow or jello or hello,” said founder and CEO Andrew Levy, as he introduced the low-cost carrier that will soon call McKinney National Airport (TKI) home.

The airline plans to make McKinney one of its main bases, joining a growing network of secondary airports in large metro areas — a deliberate strategy, according to industry analyst Henry Harteveldt. “It’s a no-frills carrier, and you pay for the extras,” he said…
