From Plano Classrooms To Orbit: Students Join NASA-Inspired Mission

What started in Plano ISD classrooms as sketches, science concepts and creative brainstorming is now connected to a real mission tied to space exploration. Two Plano Independent School District students recently earned top honors in the district’s Mission 19 Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) Patch Contest, a districtwide competition inspired by NASA-style mission design and scientific discovery.

The winning artwork from the elementary and secondary divisions will now help represent Plano ISD’s participation in the national SSEP initiative, while student-led science experiments developed at Academy High School are also preparing for launch.

A Districtwide Creative Challenge

The Mission 19 Patch Contest invited students across Plano ISD to design original mission patches inspired by themes of space exploration, innovation and discovery.

The response was massive. Nearly 1,000 submissions were entered from campuses throughout the district, including approximately 750 elementary designs and 250 secondary-level entries…
