Man with fentanyl, fake cash vandalizes gas station

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is accused of paying for gas with a counterfeit $20 bill, vandalizing a Soulsville gas station, and hiding fentanyl in his sock on Monday.

James Payne, 53, was charged with possession of counterfeit marks under $500, vandalism $1,000-$2,500, possession of a controlled substance with intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At around 7 a.m., officers responded to a counterfeit/forgery call at Parkway Express on Mississippi Boulevard.
