MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A Memphis woman is doing everything she can to honor the dozens of people buried in an overgrown and neglected historic Black cemetery in Cordova — including her own family.
Carrie Louise Pinson moved back to Memphis from Atlanta two years ago. When she visited her loved ones’ graves at Zion Hill CME Cemetery, she was stunned by what she found.
“I tried to find my dad and this is when I discovered this wilderness,” Pinson said.
Her father, grandfather, grandmother, and cousin — U.S. Army Private and war veteran Temoi Walker — are all buried somewhere on the property. Walker was laid to rest there in 1946, two years before veterans cemeteries were integrated…
