JACKSON, Tenn. (WBBJ) – Nearly 1,900 West Tennessee workers have been notified of job losses since January, part of a statewide total of 5,001, according to state labor data.
The figures come from Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) alerts, which employers must file when planning mass layoffs or plant closures, and show the region accounting for more than one-third of all Tennessee layoffs this year.
County-by-county impact
Shelby County saw the largest impact with 1,454 workers affected across seven companies. The largest single layoff came from NIKE Retail Services, which cut 583 jobs effective April 3.
