MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Shelby County is naming Sept. 1 as “Dave Brown Day” in honor of Action News 5 Chief Meteorologist Emeritus Dave Brown.
Commissioner Mick Wright, former Action News 5 Sports Director Jarvis Greer and others surprised Brown and his family Monday at lunch. Sept. 1 is also Brown’s 80th birthday.
Last week, Brown helped the city honor wrestling legend Jerry “The King” Lawler. This coming Monday, the city is honoring Brown.
Brown joined WMC Action News 5 as chief meteorologist in May 1977. Before coming to WMC, he worked at WHBQ-Radio & TV in Memphis for 13 years. His career began at hometown radio stations while he was still in high school in Trenton, Tennessee.
