MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Sheriff Anthony Buckner began his first day in office Tuesday with a tour of the Shelby County Jail, which has been riddled with problems for years.
Sheriff Buckner invited media outlets to tour the jail, including WREG’s Raven Copeland, who witnessed overcrowding within the jail, specifically in the intake area. Cameras were not allowed.
Dozens of inmates were in the area, waiting to be processed. There are also maintenance issues, which Buckner addressed, as well as the progress that’s been made within the jail.
