MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department is searching for two jail trustys who escaped in Mississippi on Tuesday.
According to DCSD, the two men walked away from Heartland Hands Food Pantry in Horn Lake, Mississippi while working around 9:30.
One accomplice, a woman who allegedly helped them escape, has been taken into custody and charged.
The escapees were identified as Gene Dewayne Saulsberry, charged with shoplifting, and Moumen Rafat Mawlawi, charged with auto theft.
Authorities said the escapees are low-level offenders and they are not believed to be in the area anymore.
“We just want to say now they have fled the area in DeSoto County. We are actively tracking these individuals, and I am confident that we are going to bring them to justice,” said DeSoto County Sheriff Thomas E. Tuggle. “I’ve said it and I’ll say it again, ‘You can commit crimes in DeSoto County but we’re going to find you.’ And I feel very, very confident we’re going to find these individuals.”
