Trial date set for Tyre Nichols family’s $550M lawsuit against Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A date has been set for a federal jury trial in a $550 million civil lawsuit against the city of Memphis filed by the family of Tyre Nichols.

District Court Judge Mark Norris set a trial date of Jan. 27, 2025, for RowVaughn Wells vs. City of Memphis, et al.

Nichols died in January 2023, three days after he was pulled over and beaten by Memphis Police officers in a traffic stop.

The incident, which was captured on surveillance and body-worn cameras, made national headlines and led to criminal charges against several officers.

Wells, who is Nichols’ mother, and attorney Ben Crump filed the $550 million civil lawsuit last April.
