News Anchor Dies at 38: ‘Amanda Was a Light in Our Newsroom’

Action News 5 Memphis anchor Amanda Hanson passed away on Thursday at the age of just 38 following a medical emergency earlier in the week.

Hanson’s death was announced on-air by Action News 5 anchor Joe Birch, who delivered a tribute to his colleague.

“It’s been a tough day here at Action News 5 and I have to share this news with you now,” declared Birch:

Sadness and heavy hearts among the Action News 5 family tonight, Amanda Hanson – journalist, Memphian, beloved colleague, and friend – has passed away. Amanda joined our team in 2021. The driving force behind the Action News 5 digital desk, she worked tirelessly to build that coverage behind the scenes with her own bottomless well of energy and creativity. You may have even seen her step in front of the camera to bring you unparalleled breaking news coverage. Amanda was more than just her work, though. She leaves behind her beloved husband, loving family, and cherished friends near and far. Amanda was just 38 years old.

According to K8 News, where Hanson previously worked, Hanson suffered an undisclosed “medical emergency earlier this week and died from complications.”
