MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Dyer County Sheriff’s Office deputy suffered serious injuries after being struck by a semi-truck while driving on Highway 51 Friday.
According to the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy William “Whit” Whitson was traveling on Highway 51 when a semi-truck pulled out in front of him, colliding with his patrol unit.
Whitson sustained serious injuries to his neck and was transported to a comprehensive trauma center in stable condition after the crash, reports say.

The sheriff’s office announced that Whitson was scheduled to undergo a procedure on Sunday morning.
“We are asking our community to rally around them during this difficult time. Please join us in praying for his speedy recovery,” said the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook post.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
