Crime victim seeking justice after shooting left her paralyzed

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — On June 18, 2022, an 18-year-old Amaya Little says her life changed forever. Little says she went to a car show in a parking lot on Thomas Street and Marsh Avenue in North Memphis with her aunt.

“I never seen nobody arguing, never seen nobody trying to fight, it was just like the shooting happened out of nowhere,” Little said. “I wasn’t there even there five minutes, and we were on top of my aunt’s car and gunshots started going off I immediately jumped down.”

Little says she took cover hoping to avoid being shot.

“Once the gunshots stopped, I tried to get up, my legs were numb, I couldn’t get up,” she said. “My auntie tried to help me up and she couldn’t get me up either and then everybody jumped in their car and everybody left.”

Memphis police say their crime scene unit recovered thirty shell casings that night. One of the bullets hit Little in the back.

“Three boys came back, I think it was a black Mustang, they immediately started taking their shirts off saying that I was bleeding out, so they were putting pressure on my back,” she said.
