Memphis man charged after $5M in stolen Nike gear found in Los Angeles

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Five million dollars in stolen Nike gear was found in a Los Angeles, California, warehouse, and police say the man involved is from Memphis.

Police in Los Angeles say they raided the warehouse Saturday and found thousands of pairs of stolen Nike shoes, clothes and even accessories.

Roy Lee Harvey Jr., 37, was caught delivering nearly $1,000 in stolen items. He’s from Memphis and is now charged with 27 felony counts of receiving stolen property.

We looked up his record in Shelby County and only found a few dismissed traffic tickets.

Last year, dozens of empty boxes were scattered in North Memphis when a group wearing dark clothing and ski masks burglarized a boxcar, stealing $400,000 worth of Nike gear.

Nearby workers pushed for more security in the area.

“There’s no patrol here. They take a while to notice because they have police sitting out sometimes,” said one of the workers.

Weeks later, a tractor-trailer at the Nike Employee store in Raleigh was hit. Memphis Police said that time thieves got away with about $200,000 in merchandise.
