Memphis is setting the trend for letting criminals go with a slap on the wrist after committing serious crimes.

In 2023, Edio White was apprehended in connection with the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Anthony Mason. Mason was shot to death on Vandalia Street in Binghampton on Thanksgiving morning. White reportedly admitted to driving the vehicle involved in the shooting, based on reports. Criminal Court Judge Bill Anderson reportedly ordered that White be released on his own recognizance.

Senator Brent Taylor called for the judge to rethink his decision in letting a murderer out on release while the investigation is still pending, according to sources. Still, more criminals are being released after being involved in murder investigations.

Another murder suspect was released on bond after the murder of the celebrity rapper Young Dolph, according to sources. Jermarcus Johnson, who plead guilty in a court hearing, was released on bond Jun 9, 2023.

As the trend continues, residents worry about their safety. They are concerned that repeat offenders who are continually released on bond will do more harm to their communities than if they were behind bars and off of the streets.
