Man shot in stomach during attempted robbery at gas station on Perkins Road

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was left critically injured Wednesday night after being shot in Parkway Village, police say.

Just before 9 p.m., officers say they responded to a shooting call at the Valero gas station on Perkins Road.

According to investigators, a 26-year-old was waiting inside his vehicle at the pumps as his mother went inside.

The driver of a black Jeep Cherokee, who also appeared to be making a fuel stop, moved in. That is when someone inside the Jeep opened fire during an attempted robbery, police say.

“A bullet came through the door. Then I [saw] him walk down here,” one of the Valero customers said. “Man, I hit the floor.”

MPD says the victim’s mother then rushed him to the nearest hospital before he was airlifted to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. He was shot in the stomach.
