MEMPHIS, Tenn. — North Memphis residents say the trash piling up in their community has been a problem for years, but nothing has been done about it.
Until Thursday, when WREG got involved.
When you’re driving down Cedar Avenue, you may not notice any problem, but if you look beyond the trees and thick shrubs, you’ll find what many people in the neighborhood have come to know as an illegal dumping site.
“This is ridiculous that I have to drive home every day and drive by this, “said Kerry Clay, a concerned resident. “Let it have been dumped in Germantown.”
Clay says he is tired of watching trash pile up just feet from his home. “I’d like to know why won’t they just clean it up.”
He says for years people have been dumping their trash on the vacant lot on North 6 th Street.
Clay says he’s reported the dumping to 311 numerous times, and on several occasions, he’s called the police when he caught the dumpsters in action.
However, the trash remains. “That trash right over there just got here less than three weeks ago,” said Clay.
