Two on the run after carjacking leads to chase, crash

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people are on the run and one person is in custody after a carjacking led to a police chase and crash Thursday afternoon.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says before 2 p.m., Memphis Police issued a BOLO for a vehicle that was taken during a carjacking in Memphis.

Deputies found the stolen vehicle in the Northaven area and pursued it until it crashed at Highway 51 and Watkins in Frayser.

SCSO says two other vehicles were involved in the crash, but no injuries were reported.

Three suspects fled the stolen vehicle. One of the suspects, a 19-year-old male, was immediately apprehended.

The sheriff’s office says deputies and Memphis Police officers are using K9s, drones, and MPD aviation to search for the other two suspects.

SCSO says southbound Highway 51 South is temporarily down to one lane at Thomas and Watkins. Drivers should use Academy Drive and Millington Road as an alternate route.
