Woman arrested, accused of shooting woman dating the same man as her

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An arrest has been made in a shooting incident that took place Friday in Downtown Memphis, according to the Memphis Police Department.

Vernisha Liggins, 24, is charged with assault, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

On February 9 around 10:50 a.m., officers say they responded to a shooting call at Danny Thomas Boulevard and Alabama Avenue. MPD says blood was in the roadway.

Witnesses on the scene told police that a woman was shot and taken to Regional One Hospital by a private vehicle.

The witnesses also stated that the shooter left the scene in a two-door turquoise Infiniti.

At the hospital, the Violent Crimes Unit spoke with the victim who stated she was having issues with Liggins due to them dating the same man.

The victim said that she and Liggins got into an argument at the intersection of Danny Thomas Boulevard and Alabama Avenue. That is when they both got out of their cars and got into a physical fight.
