Nonprofit empowers, mentors at-risk youth

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Every Tuesday, as part of our Greater Memphis on a Mission series, we highlight organizations making the Memphis area better. This week, we caught up with a group that believes in hope and mentorship.

“If I did not have a mentor, there’s no telling where I would be or even my friends and my brothers,” said Quinterrius Blunt, a mentee at the Hope Center.

Blunt was 14 years old when he joined the organization. “We were just there for the fun honestly– for the food and enjoyment of our friendship and fellowship with other kids. But I later found out the importance of what was actually going on.”

Blunt’s mentor was Stacy Dodd, the founder of the nonprofit organization that mentors and empowers at-risk youth in grades three through 12.

“We do one-to-one mentoring, which is the most impactful. That’s where you get the best long-term outcomes. Or you have one-on-one relationships with the students. We also do group mentoring,” said Dodd.

The Hope Center also brings in leaders from the community to create opportunities for the students to hear directly from them.
