‘There are consequences.’ 3 people detained for threats leading to MSCS lockdowns

All Memphis-Shelby County Schools campuses were placed under lockdown protocol Wednesday after threats were made against several schools. Three individuals have been detained and questioned regarding a threat made against Whitehaven High School, according to Memphis-Shelby County Schools Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins.

Memphis Police Department interim Chief Cerelyn “C.J.” Davis said MPD detained three students at Whitehaven High School.

Southwind High School also received a threat via phone call at 7:19 a.m. and on social media, Feagins said. The individual who made the threat at Southwind High School has not been identified, Davis said, but the investigation is ongoing.

“The district was then alerted to a series of social media posts at several schools across the city, and we activated lockdown measures at all of our campuses as a precautionary measure,” Feagins said. “We believe that these additional social media posts were a result of re-posts and re-sharing of the original posts, but we take all threats seriously.”
