Grizzlies’ coach calls on his star guards to be better defenders

The Memphis Grizzlies are one of the most promising teams in the NBA. They had a disappointing 2023/24 season because of the injuries, but their talent level is up there with some of the top teams in the Association.

Despite that potential, coach Taylor Jenkins knows the team needs to improve defensively to compete for an NBA title.

While they have always been a good defensive team due to Jaren Jackson Jr. manning the paint, coach Jenkins wants more from his backcourt of Ja Morant and Desmond Bane.

“It’s just brutal honesty with those guys,” Jenkins told the Commerical Appeal about Ja and Desmond, after the second day of the Grizzlies’ training camp. ” They obviously carry a big responsibility on the offensive side for us. They have seen enough film over the years. It’s just sometimes having that honest conversation about where we are going now… We’re going to ask everyone to be on the same page with a collective style on the offensive side. We need the same thing on the defensive side.”
