MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was arrested on Saturday after Memphis Police say he fatally shot his ex-girlfriend outside of her apartment.

Joshua Banks, 43, has been charged with second-degree murder for the incident that transpired early Thursday morning.

At 12:17 a.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the University Garden Manor Apartments.

When they arrived, they discovered a woman face down and unresponsive in the parking lot, suffering from several wounds.

The victim was taken to Regional One in critical condition but was pronounced deceased at 12:53 a.m. by medical staff.

Doctors described the wounds to the back of her head, left shoulder blade and left torso as being consistent with gunshots.

As investigators processed the scene, they recovered 9mm spent cartridges as well as the victim’s phone.

A relative identified the victim and told officers that she had been dating Joshua Banks for approximately six months until September 26 when he allegedly stole $900 from the victim’s account.
