Citizens help MPD officer during fight with suspect

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A police officer and a suspect are headed to the hospital after a struggle between the two led to the officer’s gun being discharged.

During a brief press conference on Monday, Memphis Police Assistant Chief Don Crowe detailed the event.

Around 5 p.m. on Monday, an officer saw a car traveling southbound on Mendenhall Road.

The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the car but the car ended up losing control and striking a utility box.

The officer approached the car and when the suspect got out, Crowe claims he began to struggle with the officer.
