After winning gold in the Paris Olympics, the United States basketball program has shifted its focus to the future. If a recent report by a leading NBA reporter is accurate, the Memphis Grizzlies’ star guard will be part of the future.
According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, an anonymous USAB source expressed his high hopes that the Memphis Grizzlies sensation should be on the team’s 2028 Olympic roster alongside fellow NBA star Zion Williamson.
“We will still have a great chance to win gold, but it won’t be easy,” the source said . “Ja and Zion need to be in the mix. Moving forward, hopefully, they can get on track and stay on track.”
Missed out on Olympic glory due to scandals
Since his breakout campaign in 2021-22, Ja has been positioned to be part of Team USA. But the following season, he endured the first fiasco of his career; he was suspended for eight games for brandishing a firearm in a social media live.
Morant unwisely repeated this controversial act a few months later, during the offseason. This prompted the NBA leadership to slap him with a lengthy 25-game suspension to be served at the start of the 2023-24 campaign.
