As expected, Ja Morant is set to become unavailable for a significant amount of time.
As announced by the Memphis Grizzlies in its press release on Saturday, imaging revealed that Morant has sustained a posterior hip subluxation (without dislocation) along with multiple associated Grade 1 pelvic muscle strains. The franchise superstar won’t play on a week-to-week timeframe.
Ja’s injury background
Ja sustained the injury in the team’s Wednesday victory against the Los Angeles Lakers. During the third frame, Morant glided for a failed alley-oop attempt from a Jake LaRavia pass, but he got destabilized mid-air from contact by a Lakers player. He eventually called for a substitution, entered the locker room, and didn’t return to the game, finishing his night with a 20-point performance.
Morant eventually sat down and missed the team’s Friday game win against the Washington Wizards where he was seen using crutches.
The 25-year-old has appeared in eight games this 2024-25 season, averaging 20.6 points, 5.0 boards, and a career-best 9.1 assists in 27.9 minutes. Without his presence, the team will embark on a three-game road trip this upcoming week, which will start on Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers.
