MEMPHIS, Tenn. — FedEx is laying off some workers, the company confirmed late Wednesday, though it’s not clear how many or in what roles.
Some FedEx employees in the Memphis area said they knew first-hand that local workers were affected.
In a statement, the Memphis-based shipping company said:
“We made the difficult decision to reduce a small number of positions as we streamline and realign functions. Decisions of this nature are never made lightly and are the result of much thought and consideration for the needs of our business. We are actively working with those affected by these changes to ensure they have the support they need during this transition.”

FedEx employs about 30,000 in the greater Memphis area at its corporate headquarters and world hub.
The company announced last September that it would reduce positions in its IT and Finance departments. Earlier in 2023, the shipping giant said it would lay off 10 percent of its global officers and directors as it tried to reduce costs.
