Detainee dies after being found unresponsive at Shelby County Jail

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A detainee at the Shelby County Jail died after being found unresponsive Tuesday evening, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO). SCSO said that 29-year-old Wesley Joyner was found unresponsive in his cell around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17. Staff members and paramedics performed life-saving measures, and Joyner was rushed to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival, according to SCSO. Joyner was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m.
