Man accused of stealing ambulance appears in court

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man accused of ramming an ambulance truck into an MPD squad car appeared in court Thursday morning.

31-year-old Reco Dickson is charged with theft of property, evading arrest, drivers to exercise due care, driving while license suspended, and resisting official detention.

“This court has reviewed this affidavit, and in this court’s opinion it does lay out the facts that would essentially lead to those charges, but if your attorney disagrees, they can certainly challenge it,” said Judge Shelia B. Renfroe.

Memphis Police say Dickson stole an ambulance outside Methodist South Hospital, led officers on a chase, and then struck a police squad car while trying to escape.

WREG captured the moment the ambulance crashed into that squad car.

No officers were injured.

Now, this is not the first time Dickson’s encounters with police have been caught on camera.

Back in 2022, Dickson was seen on camera getting repeatedly kicked and punched by a Memphis Police officer.
