MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Families lined up in Downtown Memphis on Friday, waiting patiently for a mobile food drive hosted by St. Patrick Catholic Church.
From frozen chicken to all the fixings, it was all provided by Mid-South Food. Dozens of volunteers worked for hours to distribute the food to those driving up and walking up.
The first person in line arrived overnight, roughly 10 hours before things got underway.
“We are doing what Jesus said. When I was hungry, you fed me. And that’s what we do here,” said Father Dexter Noblefranca with St. Patrick Catholic Church. “From words to action, we do the Jesus thing here.”

In this case, they’re extending a helping hand by providing food to those who started lining up many hours before the food drive’s 8:30 a.m. start time, as cars were snaked around several blocks.
“Last night after the Grizzlies game, there was a car already here like 10 o’clock. So some stayed the whole night,” said Father Noblefranca.
