MEMPHIS, Tenn. – An 11-year-old boy was injured after a shooting Monday night in Whitehaven, police said.
Memphis Police (MPD) said it happened just before 9:20 p.m. on Lochinvar Road off Millbranch Road in the Whitehaven neighborhood. Officers arrived to find a boy had been shot.
Police said he was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
The boy was expected to be OK. His age was unknown.
It was unclear what led to the gunfire but the shooting was the latest example of a troubling trend in Memphis. Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital said it treated more than 140 children for gunshot wounds so far this year.
That number was down from 180 last year but still the second-highest number ever recorded by the hospital. The latest shooting was another reminder that despite the decline, gun violence among children continues to take a heavy toll on Memphis.
FOX13 will continue to push for answers on Tuesday night’s shooting on Lochinvar Drive.
