Drug Trafficker Sentenced to Thirty Years

Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Bubba Bramlett has announced that a man from Olive Branch has been sentenced to thirty years in the custody of Mississippi Department of Corrections. Fifteen of the years are to be served day-for-day, without the possibility of parole or early release.

According to a press release from Bramlett, Flowood Police stopped a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Charles Ira Johnson on June 14, 2023.

When speaking to Johnson, officers noticed a a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. This led to a probable cause search, leading officers to discover a small amount of marijuana as well as 4.5 kilos of methamphetamine in a cardboard box in the front passenger seat.

The officers arrested Johnson for aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance, a felony foreign warrant, and other misdemeanor charges.

District Attorney Bubba Bramlett stated, “We hope this is the end of Johnson’s criminal behavior and that this sentence will discourage others from choosing to make easy money by trafficking illegal drugs in and through our county, state, and country.”
