Snow has been falling for hours across the Memphis area in what is expected to be a major storm. Icy roads are greeting drivers. The area is expected to receive 6-8 inches of snow , according to the National Weather Service Memphis.
The area is under a winter storm warning and schools, government offices and many businesses have closed for the day as snow covers the Memphis area. Memphis-Shelby County Schools, Germantown Municipal School District, DeSoto County Schools and others announced closures Thursday in the late afternoon in anticipation of the snow .
