Georgia revives centuries-old border dispute with Tennessee over river access

ATLANTA — Georgia lawmakers are once again pushing to move the state’s northern border, arguing a surveying error from more than two centuries ago wrongly placed a portion of Tennessee within its territory.

The resolution, which recently passed a state House committee, seeks to establish a commission to work with Congress on adjusting the boundary. Supporters say the change would grant Georgia direct access to the Tennessee River—a critical water source for the state’s growing population.
