Shelby County Authorities Conduct Major Crackdown, Teen Faces 19 Charges in County-Wide Carjackings

A sweeping law enforcement effort dubbed a “saturation” took place last Friday night in the Southwind area, as Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Highway Patrol descended on the region to tackle crime. This action followed the arrest of a 17-year-old male tied to multiple carjackings and thefts across the county, which included a carjacking at a Circle K gas station on Hacks Cross Road reported by Action News 5.

In connection to the arrests, SCSO said the teen is facing 19 counts, ranging from carjacking and theft of property to aggravated assault and fraudulent use of a debit/credit card. The crackdown not only targeted the individual responsible for these crimes but also aimed to deter ongoing criminal activity in the area, according to FOX13 Memphis by SCSO Chief Deputy Anthony Buckner.

The saturation operation, which centered at Southwind High School before fanning out, resulted in 17 arrests and a variety of seizures that included one vehicle, four weapons, $3,020 in cash, three pounds of marijuana, and 90 ecstasy pills, as detailed by a report from Action News 5. In total, the deputies also issued 268 citations and attempted to serve 19 warrants.
