Man charged in shooting that left victim quadriplegic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A preliminary hearing was held Wednesday for a man accused of shooting someone up to seven times, leaving them a quadriplegic, the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office says.

Devontae Matthews, 20, was charged with criminal attempt first-degree murder and employment of a firearm with the intent to commit a dangerous felony.

On February 6, Memphis police officers responded to a shooting in the 700 block of Vaal Avenue.
