Measles ‘no longer suspected’ in first Shelby County reported case. What we know

The Shelby County Health Department announced the first case of measles in Shelby County on March 27. Now, two two weeks later, they no longer suspect the case was measles.

The health department stated in a press release, after further testing, they have determined that the “illness reported as a case of measles,” now does not meet the case definition of measles.

“It is a relief to know that this reported case is no threat to the general public, however, the Health Department remains on high alert for measles. We ask physicians to continue to be vigilant for respiratory illness accompanied by rash, particularly among those who have recently traveled to Texas or other states experiencing measles outbreaks,” Dr. Michelle Taylor, Shelby County Health Department Director and Health Officer, said in a press release…
