MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A Memphis gynecologist indicted on more than 20 charges will be allowed to reopen his clinic as long as he follows conditions laid out by the court.
A judge ruled that Dr. Sanjeev Kumar could reopen his Poplar Avenue clinic on Monday, April 14, as long as he meets certain conditions. A few of those conditions include that Kumar must not re-use single use scopes, that any time a doctor makes a referral to Kumar, they must be aware of a third-party risk notification and that notification must also be provided to any new patient and at each new visit. Kumar is not allowed to perform hysteroscopies and has to refer a patient to another doctor for that operation.
A grand jury indicted Kumar on 23 federal charges related to healthcare fraud, performing unnecessary procedures, and reusing single-use medical devices, in some cases “until they broke,” according to court records…
