West Memphis officer assaulted, suspect caught by K-9 after fleeing

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. – A man assaulted a West Memphis police officer early Friday morning as officers were leaving an emergency room, according to the West Memphis Police Department (WMPD).

Police said the man fled the scene while still in handcuffs. Officers briefly lost sight of him after he ran across a field and jumped over an interstate barrier.

According to WMPD, K-9 officers Sammy and Zero helped track down the man, who was hiding in a ditch. Police said K-9 Officer Sammy apprehended the man after he refused to comply with several warnings…
